Meditation on the Seven Sorrows of Mary

"Devotion to the Sorrowful Mysteries originated during the Middle Ages when devotion to the Passion of Christ was popular. The Middle Ages was a time of war and suffering. Between the years 1348 - 1377, almost 40% of the population of Europe died from the bubonic plague. In the face of this and other tragedies, many people turned to the Crucified Christ and his Sorrowful Mother to assist them and help them to understand their sufferings. Sorrow and pain, however, know no age. May the Crucified Christ and his Sorrowful Mother be a source of strength and compassion to all those who suffer for whatever reason."
