Freemasonry
Mankind's Hidden Enemy
With Current Official Catholic Statements
Second Edition
Expanded

By Bro. Charles Madden, O.F.M. Conv., who resided at Marytown.

Freemasonry: Mankind's Hidden Enemy is a short, incisive examination of the nature of Freemasonry, written to give the busy reader a brief, clear overview of the subject and to convince Catholics of our time that the Church still forbids them to join this cult–and to give the reasons why!

Quoting Pope Leo XIII's famous encyclical Humanum Genus (1884)–which is still the Church's classic condemnation of Freemasonry–the author proves that Freemasonry is a secret society, one that even its own members do not know the exact objectives of, and whose members swear blind obedience to their leaders, even under pain of death. He shows that Freemasonry is a religion of naturalism and aims at promoting naturalism and human reason over the influence of the Church upon society, especially in the secularizing of marriage and education. Through portraying itself as a friend and benefactor of all mankind, Freemasonry actually denigrates God, Jesus Christ, monotheism and religion, and works to nullify the effect of all religion–but especially the Catholic religion– upon society and individuals. It accomplishes this end by fostering indifference to religion and the idea that one religion is as good as another, but also through immorality, which destroys a person's idealism and respect for truth.

Very importantly, the author discusses the Catholic confusion about Freemasonry dating from the 1970's, showing that the Church has not changed her traditional stance against the cult. The book includes the latest declaration from Rome regarding Freemasonry, and tells Catholics in Freemasonry what they should do to rectify their situation. It also discusses the remarkable similarities between Freemasonry and the New Age Movement, how Masonry is linked to ancient paganism and to the mafia, and how it includes a little-known statement from St. Maximilian Kolbe regarding Freemasonry's main strategy against Catholicism–plus St. Maximilian's inspired counter-strategy. A series of brief, enlightening Appendices rounds out the picture this book draws of Freemasonry–which it clearly portrays as evil–so that in the end, one has an excellent understanding of exactly what is wrong with Freemasonry and just why a Catholic may not join it.
